New Wawa To Open In Union County This Week

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Wawa announced Monday that its newest store in Union will have its grand opening on Thursday, Oct. 6.

The new Wawa will be located at 1750 US-22, and to mark the occasion, Wawa will host a grand opening celebration and outdoor ribbon cutting beginning at 9 a.m.

Before the celebration, the new store will open at 8 a.m., and Wawa will begin distributing limited-edition "Goose Vibes Only" T-shirts for the first 100 customers who walk through the door.

Wawa will also provide free coffee to the community to celebrate its opening from Thursday, Oct. 6 to Sunday, Oct. 9.

The newest location is one of many Wawa stores in Union County. Other stores can be found in Springfield, Plainfield, Cranford, Roselle, Rahway and Elizabeth.

Each of Wawa's grand openings is part of its "2022 Day Brighteners Tour," which is an initiative designed to celebrate the customers, associates, local heroes and community organizations that "brighten our days."

The tour will also mark Wawa’s ongoing commitment to growth, with plans to open 54 new stores and create more than 2,500 new jobs through the year.

The grand opening of the Union location is the 27th to open this year out of the 54 total stores projected to open across Wawa’s operating area in 2022.

According to Wawa's announcement, Nicholas Bloodgood will serve as general manager of the new Union Wawa store, leading a team of approximately 50 associates, all of which are new positions brought to the area through the development of the store.

"Associates in these full- and part-time positions will not only receive competitive salaries with hourly starting rate of $15 and health benefits, but once eligible, will participate in Wawa’s employee stock ownership plan (ESOP)," the announcement states.

The Union store will be fully equipped with a built-to-order fresh food kitchen featuring its signature hoagies, customizable burgers, coffee, the Sizzliä (Wawa’s hot breakfast sandwich) and much more.

Thursday's opening will also feature Wawa mascot Wally Goose, confetti and fanfare, according to the announcement.
