Rahway Unveils Safe Exchange Zone: See Where

Rahway's first dedicated space for safe in-person sales and exchanges is set to open on next month.

RAHWAY, NJ - Have you ever bought something online, but are wary of heading to a stranger's house to pick it up? Or do you need to meet with someone, and are looking for a neutral, safe spot to do so?

Rahway’s first dedicated space for safe in-person sales and exchanges stemming from online places is set to open next month.

The city’s Safe Exchange Zone will open April 1 in the Rahway Police Department lobby, Rahway police and Mayor Raymond Giacobbe said in a joint announcement.

The zone - dedicated to exchanges originating from online marketplaces such as Craigslist and Facebook marketplace - will be open 24-hours a day, 7 days a week and will always be monitored.

Many New Jersey police departments and towns tout safe exchange zones to facilitate safe in-person transactions. In 2016, a Highlands resident was robbed in their home after they tried to sell an item on Craigslist. Incredibly, the resident was able to escape the situation by crawling out through a window.
