GARWOOD, NJ - A beloved bowling alley in Garwood has returned following nearly a month of repairs due to a fire, its ownership said.

Garwood Lanes reopened Tuesday and hosted a grand opening celebration on Saturday complete with live music, food and, of course, bowling.

The July 31 fire was doused by members of the Westfield Fire Department who were stopped for lunch across the street at Al’s Deli when a loyal patron reported a fire outside the bowling alley.

“Without any pleading or jurisdiction they sprung into action simply because it’s what they were trained to do,” Garwood Lanes said in a statement. “They were later joined by our beloved Garwood Fire Department and Cranford Fire Department for a successful control of the situation.”

Over the course of the following weeks, Garwood Lanes canceled its league nights and remain shuttered as it battled electrical issues and fire-related damages.

After a few “twists and turns,” ownership said, the local mainstay was finally ready to reopen this week.

“The entire Garwood community came together to help us from the esteemed Mayor to all of the first responders to each and every one of our neighbors,” Garwood Lanes said. “We hold the Garwood name proudly and thanks to the entire community we look forward to opening our doors as soon as we can to welcome you all home.”
