Cougars Field Hockey Wins 4-0 Against N. Plainfield

Cranford defeats North Plainfield 4-0.

Cranford High School field hockey had something of a breather Monday
afternoon at Orange Avenue School. The 4-0 conquest of winless North Plainfield (0-3) was a good way for the Cougars to prepare for a Wednesday battle with Union County Conference foe and perennial power Kent Place in Summit.

The Cougars pelted North Plainfield keeper Geolenne Velasquez with 22 shots and the team had 12 corners in the first half alone.
Seniors left wing Allison Przygocki, right wing Hillary Joseph, Amy Negrin and sophomore Emily Snyder had the goals for the Cougars, who improved to 2-1, winning their second straight.

Joseph assisted on the first and fourth goals and Maria Guarisco assisted on the second.

The Cougars were coming off a 6-0 rout of Ranney School after a tough 1-0 loss to Governor Livingston that opened the season.

"We did good today, we did very well and I'm very proud of them,'' said Cranford
coach Meghan Snyder. "We needed to build our confidence, that first loss to GL hurt. We'll be ready to go in aggressive and ready to go against Kent Place. I thought we dominated against GL, but we just couldn't score.''

They dominated and scored often Monday.

"We were very aggressive today,'' said Snyder, adding that the team had six corners against Governor Livingston.

Przygocki beat Velasquez at 22:57 of the first period after the Cougars had been all over the North Plainfield keeper. Joseph scored at 12:16 of the first half to make it 2-0. Joseph leads the team with four goals.

"She's a very strong player,'' said Snyder of Joseph.

Joseph, who has been playing since the seventh grade, is an all-year player and it
shows. She's in her second year of being a starter on the varsity.

"I felt like we played very good and kept it in their end the majority of the
game,'' said Joseph. "We had a tough loss to GL. We picked it in our second game
(Ranney) and we have been gelling."
