Cranford Fire Department Goes Pink For Breast Cancer Awareness

"We all know someone who has been affected by breast cancer," said Chief Dan Czeh.

CRANFORD, NJ — The Cranford Fire Department will be lighting up in pink and holding a sale of t-shirts during October to spread awareness for breast cancer research.

Funds from the sale of shirts will benefit programs led by Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society.

“We all know someone who has been affected by breast cancer," said Chief Dan Czeh. "It is our goal to bring awareness and get the message out that early detection saves lives.

Breast cancer is responsible for around 30 percent of all new cancer cases for women in the United States, according to breastcancer.org. An estimated one in eight women nationwide will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime.

Men are also affected and carry a one in 833 lifetime risk.

"It is our hope that all females go for an annual mammography. Early detection is critical for surviving breast cancer," Chief Czeh added. "Males should also be proactive and see a doctor if they detect any abnormalities. Take care of your health today, so you can be here tomorrow.”

T-shirts are $25 and can be purchased using the QR code in the flyer or by visiting the firehouse at 7 Springfield Ave. Checks made out to FMBA Local 37, cash, and Venmo (@Cranford-Local) are all accepted.
