Cranford Theater Readies For Grand Re-Opening

A partial ceiling collapse closed the theater for months.

CRANFORD, NJ — The Cranford Theater will hold its grand re-opening on Nov. 25 after being closed on April 30 due to an issue with the building's ceiling.

Owner Doreen Sayegh said the partial ceiling collapse has been fixed and business is ready to continue as usual.

The space is now being reworked into a multi-use community space. Management says film festivals, comedy shows, live music, book readings, and more will join the regular movie showings.

Union County's only remaining hometown family-run theater will be hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2 p.m., followed by a ticketed movie showing afterwards.

Admission for showings through the end of this month and its Pajama Party Series in December are on sale now. The first slate of ticketed movies includes "Wicked: For Good," "Zootopia 2," and "Rental Family."

Temporarily Closed

First responders arrived on April 30 and found an active ceiling collapse in the theater, which was open and operational at the time. Everyone had already escaped safely, and no injuries were reported.

The reason for the collapse is still unclear. Patch has reached out for more information.
