Drugs, Loaded Guns In Car Leads To Arrests In Cranford: Police

Crack-cocaine, heroin and loaded guns were found in a man's car in Cranford on Sunday. The driver and passenger were arrested, police said.

CRANFORD, NJ — Cranford Police arrested an Essex County man and a Union County woman for possessing narcotics, as well as multiple weapon-related offenses, during a motor vehicle stop on Raritan Road Sunday.

Officer Christopher Gross saw a blue 2022 Hyundai commit multiple vehicle violations in the area of Centennial Avenue near Raritan Road at around 7:53 p.m. Gross then pulled the car over and discovered crack-cocaine, heroin and a loaded handgun among other items in the vehicle, leading to two subsequent arrests.

The driver of the Hyundai was identified as Tremayne Williams, 48, of East Orange and the passenger was identified as Brianne Robinson, 42, of Winfield Park.

While both Williams and Robinson were separated, Robinson attempted to hide drug paraphernalia from Gross and was immediately handcuffed and arrested, according to Cranford Police.

Outside of the Hyundai, Williams dropped illegal substances by his feet and tried to flee the scene on foot. He was caught and placed under arrested by Officer Michael Gamba after a brief foot chase.

Williams was found to be concealing distribution-weight crack-cocaine. Further investigation found that both Williams and Robinson possessed a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun, a defaced Ruger .380 caliber handgun also loaded with ammunition, crack-cocaine, heroin, drug paraphernalia and a large sum of U.S. currency.

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office approved the following charges against both Williams and Robinson, according to police:

  • Two counts of 2nd degree possession of a firearm
  • Two counts of possession of a firearm while possessing CDS with the intent to distribute
  • 4th degree possession of a defaced firearm
  • 4th degree possession of a large capacity magazine
  • 2nd degree possession with the intent to distribute CDS crack-cocaine
  • 3rd degree possession of CDS crack-cocaine
  • 3rd degree possession of CDS heroin
  • Possession of CDS paraphernalia, a disorderly persons offense.

In addition, Williams was charged with resisting arrest and was given motor vehicle summonses for failing to maintain lane, failing to signal lane change and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle.

Chief Ryan J. Greco confirmed that this was the second firearms arrest conducted by the Cranford Police Department within the past week after a stolen firearm was recovered during a motor vehicle stop in Cranford on Feb. 16.

At the time of this arrest, Williams and Robinson were waiting to be admitted into Union County Jail, pending a detention hearing.
