Masks No Longer Required At Cranford Schools Starting March 7
Superintendent Scott Rubin announced that Cranford Schools will no longer require universal masking, in lieu of Gov. Murphy's announcement.
CRANFORD, NJ — On the heels of Gov. Phil Murphy's announcement to end the mask mandate in all New Jersey public schools, Cranford Public Schools announced they will no longer require universal masking as of March 7.
Murphy announced Monday afternoon that mandate would be lifted due to the dramatic decline in COVID cases, transmission rates and hospitalizations, as well as an increase in vaccination rates in the state. Superintendent Dr. Scott Rubin said in accordance with the new guidance, masks will be optional in Cranford Schools starting March 7.
Murphy is leaving it up to individual districts to decide whether they will keep the mask mandate or not, and many Union County schools are deciding to make masks optional for students and staff.

The New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) said prior to the governor's announcement that it will release guidance on masking, among other prevention strategies, that should be used under certain circumstances. Rubin said the NJDOH will also provide guidance on other important related topics, such as quarantining.
Rubin said the district is committed to keeping kids healthy and in school and will continue to update the community as they receive additional information.
