2-Alarm Home Fire Extinguished In South River: Officials

SOUTH RIVER, NJ - A two-alarm residential fire in South River prompted the evacuation of all occupants early Monday morning, officials said.

The residential structure fire was reported at around 2:17 a.m. at 17 Thomas St., the South River Fire Department said in a statement.

“Upon the [arrival] of chief 1, a full 2nd alarm was requested,” the fire department said in a statement. “All occupants had safely exited the structure and were taken care of by South River OEM and the Red Cross of NJ.”

The fire was eventually placed under control shortly after 4 a.m., fire officials said; department units remained on scene until nearly 6 a.m. to ensure the blaze would not rekindle.

The scene is currently under investigation by the Middlesex County Fire Marshal's Office.

South River fire officials thanked its George Street Firehouse Ladies Auxiliary, the South River Police Department, South River Office of Emergency Management, RWJ University Hospital New Brunswick EMS, East Brunswick Fire District 1, East Brunswick Fire District 2, Sayreville Volunteer Fire Department, South Amboy Fire Department, Spotswood Fire Department, Monroe Fire District 1, Middlesex County Fire Marshal’s Office, The Red Cross of NJ and Milltown Rescue Squad for assistance at the scene.
