Sinkhole Swallows Street, Woman Killed In Crash: NJ Weekend

NEW JERSEY — A 34-year-old woman was killed in a car crash in Carteret, and a driver was seriously injured after hitting a pick-up truck.

Teen Injured In Paterson Shooting

A 16-year-old boy was injured after he was shot in Paterson on Friday evening. Around 5:03 p.m. on Friday, Paterson Police officers were dispatched to the area of Market Street and East 19th Street on a report of a shooting. On arrival they found a 16-year-old suffering from gunshot wounds, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said. The teen has been hospitalized.

Sinkhole The Size of Parking Spot Opens Up In NJ Borough

A sinkhole, the size of a parking spot, opened up in Rutherford on Saturday morning, closing a busy section of W. Erie Avenue, officials said.

The sinkhole developed around 11 a.m., and borough crews and engineers were on the scene for repairs. Officials said the intersection at Union Ave to Chestnut Street will be closed for the foreseeable future.

According to authorities, the source of the sinkhole is a broken Veolia water line. Water services are interrupted in the area, but the extent of affected homes and businesses is unclear at this point, officials said.

As of Monday, a portion of the road was open for a few hours, but there will be more intermittent closures as crews work on the sinkhole.

Driver Injured After Tractor-Trailer Overturns

A driver was injured after a tractor-trailer overturned in Neptune Township on Friday evening.

The incident took place on Route 66 East. Wayside Road and the ramp from Route 18 South to Route 66 East were closed as first responders and EMS arrived at the scene. Neptune HazMat was on scene to clear the significant fluid and debris, officials said.

The driver was taken to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment.

Driver Seriously Injured After Hitting Truck

A driver was seriously injured on Saturday after a car hit a pickup truck that was stopped on Route 9 near Hickory Lane, Berkeley Township police said.

According to the preliminary investigation, the driver of a Ford F-250 pickup truck was trying to turn around on Route 9 when he backed into a concrete block on the shoulder of the road, stopping the pickup and trailer in the middle of the road.

A Toyota Corolla that was headed south on Route 9 hit the pickup truck, injuring the driver.

Woman Killed In Car Crash

A 34-year-old woman was killed in a car crash Saturday night in Carteret, authorities said.

The woman was identified as Cristina Flores 34, of the Avenel section of Woodbridge. The crash occurred on the West Carteret Bridge on Roosevelt Avenue at 9:55 p.m. Saturday
