At the ceremony, the Daily Record quoted Hansen in saying:

“It’s a happy day. It’s a sad day at the same time, but all you that have come here today to help me get through this, it’s making it easier for me to stand before you. It’s truly an honor for me to be your chief for all of these years. Forty-three years is a long time. And 25 years as a police chief is long too.”

After the ceremony, the retired chief and his family received an escort back to his home, the Daily Record reported.
