On March 1, Yasir Twitty, 20, from Newark, was arrested by Berkley Heights police after they discovered his Edison warrant during the course of an unrelated investigation, Bryan said. Twitty had been identified as a suspect involved in several residential burglaries that took place in Edison during the overnight and early morning of December 2024 and January 2025.

Stewart and Twitty have been charged with second-degree burglary of an occupied residence and theft of a motor vehicle. These charges stem from a December 2024 incident where several individuals forced entry to a resident's home while they were asleep and stole a vehicle from the home’s driveway. Twitty faces further charges for his involvement in five additional home burglaries that took place in Edison in January.

Both Stewart and Twitty have been charged under a new law signed by Governor Murphy on October 19, 2024, which makes the crime of Burglary of an Occupied Residence a second degree crime, Bryan said.
