Democrats Sweep Edison Town Council Race: Unofficial Result

Councilwoman Joyce Ship-Freeman, who ran as an Independent, lost her re-election bid, according to unofficial results.

EDISON, NJ — With all 78 districts reporting, the Democrats have emerged winners for the Town Council seats in Edison, according to unofficial results from Middlesex County.

Nine candidates were vying for four seats on the Town Council. Three Democratic incumbents -Joseph A. Coyle, Richard Brescher and Ajay V. Patil and newcomer Asaf Shmuel defeated their GOP challengers Paul Bravo, Russell J. Azzarello, Thomas W. Comollo and Gerald Shine.

Brescher got the most votes at 8,011, followed by Coyle (7,719), Patil (7,607) and Shmuel (7,215).

Councilwoman Joyce Ship-Freeman who ran as an Independent lost her re-election bid and garnered just 1,617 votes.

All results remain unofficial until certified by the Board of Elections.
