Teen Charged In Fatal Shooting Of 17-Year-Old Edison Girl, Prosecutor Says

The shooting occurred early Saturday morning at a home on Grove Avenue, authorities said.

EDISON, NJ — A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of an Edison girl on Saturday, Middlesex County Prosecutor Linda Estremera and Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan said.

At 1:19 a.m. on Saturday, authorities responded to a home on Grove Avenue for a report of a shooting.

Once they arrived at the home, Estremera said they found a 17-year-old girl from Edison with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, identified as a 17-year-old boy from Plainfield who was at the home and knew the girl prior to the incident, was then taken into custody. Authorities did not release the suspect’s name.

The boy has been charged in juvenile court with acts that would constitute charges of aggravated manslaughter, unlawful possession of a handgun, and possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose in adult court, the prosecutor's office said.

He is being held at the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center awaiting a preliminary hearing before a family court judge, Estremera said.
