Edison BOE: Biral Patel Elected President, New Members Sworn In

EDISON, NJ — The Edison Board of Education held its reorganization meeting recently.

Two newly-elected Board members – Christopher Lugo and Anjana Patel - and Virginia White who won her reelection, were sworn into their three-year terms.

Biral Patel was elected Board President. He was nominated by Joseph Romano. Patel takes over from Shannon Peng. Romano meanwhile was elected vice president.

This is Patel’s fourth year as a BOE member after he was appointed in January 2021 and then elected in November 2021 for a three-year term.

“'I would like to start by thanking my Guru Pramukh Swami Maharaj. I come from a background of volunteering and community service and strongly believe in (the motto) 'in the joy of others lies our own'. We have a lot of work to do for our district, for our students, and for our parents, teachers and staff members,” Patel said in his speech.

"From this point on, not a single student, not a single parent, not a single educator, not a single staff member, no one lives in fear. Edison Board of Education is for the people. We have a wonderful superintendent on whom we have a lot of faith to do wonderful things. Good things are on the way.”

Patel is a former member of the Edison Township Zoning Board and Water Utility Advisory Committee. He is active in several large and small nonprofit community organizations and is also a member of the Board of Trustees of The Thomas Edison Center at Menlo Park – Edison Tower.
