Edison Police Charge Local Man Tied to Multiple Vehicle Burglaries

The man was tied to eight separate incidents, police said.

EDISON, NJ – An Edison resident was charged in connection with a spate of overnight vehicle burglaries, Edison Police said Friday.

Najay Dunbar, 25, was taken into custody on Thursday. He was charged with four counts of burglary, three counts of theft, and four counts of attempted burglary, tied to eight separate incidents.

Over the past several weeks, detectives from the Department’s Burglary Unit have been investigating a pattern of overnight burglaries involving unlocked vehicles in residential neighborhoods. Surveillance video from the affected areas provided investigators with images of a suspect, prompting an intensive effort to identify and locate the individual responsible, police said.

While conducting targeted patrols in the early morning hours, detectives encountered a man matching the physical description and mode of travel of the suspect seen in surveillance footage.

The man, later identified as Dunbar, was stopped and questioned. Following further investigation and subsequent interrogation, Dunbar was charged.

Dunbar was lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing.

Police Chief Thomas Bryan commended the Criminal Investigations Bureau detectives for their coordinated response.

“This case highlights the outstanding teamwork and seamless collaboration within our Criminal Investigations Bureau. All of the units within the Bureau worked in unison to identify, locate, and apprehend the suspect swiftly and effectively. I’m proud of the commitment and professionalism our detectives continue to demonstrate in protecting this community,” Bryan said.

Edison Mayor Sam Joshi also praised the department’s efforts.

“The Edison Police Department continues to set the standard for proactive policing in New Jersey. Their strategic approach, attention to detail, and coordinated action reflect the strength and capability of our public safety professionals. I commend the entire team for their tireless work in keeping Edison safe,” Joshi said.

The Edison Police Department encourages residents to lock their vehicles, remove valuables when unattended, and report suspicious activity to authorities immediately.
