EDISON, NJ — The Edison Health Department is taking steps to enhance mental health resources for residents, particularly senior citizens, through a partnership with the New Jersey League of Municipalities.

The township recently passed a resolution seeking approval to apply for a $15,000 grant through the Mayors Wellness Campaign Mental Health Initiative Program.

The funding would be used to create and implement community mental health programming designed to address the growing mental health needs of Edison residents, with a special focus on the township's senior population.

The initiative comes at a time when mental health awareness and support services have become increasingly recognized as essential components of community wellness. Senior citizens, who may face unique challenges including social isolation, health concerns, and life transitions, often require specialized mental health resources and programming.

According to the resolution, the grant application represents the township's commitment to addressing community mental health needs through collaborative partnership with the New Jersey League of Municipalities and the Mayors Wellness Campaign.

The resolution authorizes Mayor Sam Joshi and the Director of Health to submit the grant application and, if successful, to execute the necessary agreements with the granting organizations.

The Mayors Wellness Campaign Mental Health Initiative Program is designed to help New Jersey municipalities develop and implement programs that address mental health challenges at the local level.

By partnering with the program, Edison would join other communities across the state working to destigmatize mental health issues and provide accessible support services to residents.

If the grant is awarded, the Health Department would work to develop programming that meets the specific needs of Edison's senior community, which could include support groups, educational workshops, counseling services, or wellness activities focused on mental health.
