EDISON, NJ — Victor Flores never thought cancer would stop him from playing football. The Edison High School sophomore, diagnosed with synovial sarcoma at a young age, has transformed his battle with childhood cancer into a source of strength that now inspires teammates and his entire community.
Flores has been nominated for the prestigious 2025 USA Football Heart of a Giant Award, presented by Hospital for Special Surgery and the New York Giants, recognizing Tri-State area high school students for their commitment, teamwork, character, and dedication both on and off the field.
The journey to the offensive line wasn't easy for Flores. After his cancer diagnosis, he endured surgery and intensive treatment that left lasting physical challenges. Yet, the determined teenager used his experience as motivation to pursue the sport he loves.
