Edison Township Plans To Create A Cultural Arts Commission

The commission will consist of 10 members and two alternate members who will not be receiving any compensation for their work.

EDISON, NJ – The Township of Edison is planning to create a Cultural Arts Commission, according to a proposed ordinance.

The commission will look at “engaging in cultural preservation and promotion more effectively.”

“The Mayor and Township Council are desirous of engaging in improved cultural preservation, growth and development more effectively. There exists a need for the Township government, with community involvement, to take on more significant cultural arts projects by securing funds from the state and through various fundraising projects to aid the Township in connecting and engaging a culturally diverse population while enriching the Township’s local art scene,” according to the ordinance.

The commission will consist of 10 members and two alternate members who will be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council.

All members need to be citizens and residents of Edison. They will not be receiving any compensation for their work, the ordinance said.

Initially, two members shall be appointed to serve three years, two members shall be appointed to serve two years, and three members will be appointed to serve for one year.

The serving members will be chosen to represent the various cultural interests in Edison.

All vacancies will need to be filled for the unexpired term only within 60 days.

The ordinance is expected to be adopted at a later date.
