Fire Burns Dozens Of Apartments In Edison, 3 People Injured

EDISON, NJ — A three-alarm blaze tore through an Edison apartment complex before dawn on Sunday, leaving dozens of residents homeless and extensive property damage in its wake.

The blaze erupted at 4:30 a.m. in the Vista Drive residential building off Woodbridge Avenue.

According to Mayor Sam Joshi, eight units were completely destroyed while eight more suffered substantial damage across the two-story structure, affecting a total of 36 apartments.

Two injuries were reported due to smoke inhalation and one person suffered a minor burn, Joshi said.

Firefighters from six neighboring communities—Edison, Colonia, South Plainfield, New Market, Sayreville, and New Brunswick—joined forces to battle the flames.

The American Red Cross has partnered with the Office of Emergency Management to provide assistance to families displaced by the disaster.

“Fire remains under investigation and is not considered suspicious,” Joshi said.
