Funeral Arrangements Announced For Lt. Donald Ship Of Edison Police
A wake and Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday.

EDISON, NJ - Edison Police announced funeral arrangements for Lt. Donald Ship.
A wake will be held on Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at at First Baptist Church Of Lincoln Gardens, 771 Somerset Street, Somerset.
This will be followed by a Celebration of Life, from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church Of Lincoln Gardens.

"Let’s give him the proper send-off, as he dedicated his entire life to serving the residents of Edison and beyond," Edison Police said.
Ship, 38, passed away on July 10. He was a well-known figure in the community and beyond, who spearheaded several charitable events to benefit those in need.

Ship began his law enforcement career as a Police Officer at Kean University before transferring to the Edison Police Department on Jan. 5, 2011.
He was assigned to the patrol bureau, and he was a field training officer for new hires.
On Oct. 1, 2020, he rose to the rank of Sergeant. As Sergeant, he was tasked with relaunching the Community Policing Unit.
“He worked tirelessly and with great enthusiasm to bridge the gap between the police department and the community. His efforts touched the hearts of many, as he spearheaded countless charitable events that provided warm meals, comfortable furniture, and Christmas toys to families in need,” Edison Police said.
“He was beloved by residents of all ages. Lieutenant Ship was known for his ability to find solutions to everyone’s problems and his comforting, warm smile.”
On February 14, 2023, Ship was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and became the Watch Commander for Patrol Squad A.
