Downed Wire Causes Brush Fire Between 2 Schools In Edison & Metuchen

No injuries were reported and firefighters responded immediately to contain the fire.

EDISON, NJ — A downed live wire caused a fire between a middle school in Edison and a private school in Metuchen on Monday afternoon, Mayor Sam Joshi said.

No injuries were reported and all students and staff were safe.

A little after 2:35 p.m., a live wire came down in front of Woodrow Wilson Middle School (WWMS) between St Joseph’s. The live wire caused a brush fire between both these schools. Firefighters were immediately on the scene and the fire was contained.

“I’m with the WWMS Principal and building and grounds supervisor and no one is currently at risk,” Joshi said.

“We will make sure the students and staff who exit will be far away from the scene. PSEG is responding to cut the live wire.”

Around 2:48 p.m. PSEG arrived on the scene to cut the live wire.
