Man Sentenced To Life In Prison For Murder Of Pregnant Ex-Girlfriend In Edison

The shooting took place in 2021, when the man confronted his ex-girlfriend outside her house, authorities said.

EDISON, NJ – A Plainfield man was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his pregnant ex-girlfriend, which occurred on September 4, 2021, in Edison.

Shakir Tyler, 46, was convicted on Feb. 6, after a two-week trial, of the murder of his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Tayeesha Webb, 35, of Edison, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said.

According to evidence and testimony presented during the case, Tyler confronted Webb outside of her home. During that confrontation, he fatally shot Webb on Sept. 4, 2021.

Tyler was also found guilty of unlawful possession of a handgun, and possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose.

During the sentencing hearing held on July 23, Superior Court Judge Thomas Abode, J.S.C., sentenced Tyler to life in prison for murder and 10 years concurrent on the handgun possession charge.
