EDISON, NJ – A new Indian Consular Application Center opened Thursday in Edison, the township announced. This marks a significant expansion of consular services for the tri-state area's substantial Indian-American population.

The facility, located at Edison Square on Lincoln Highway, is operated by VFS Global in partnership with the Consulate General of India in New York.

Beginning Aug. 1, the center will handle all consular services previously requiring trips to Manhattan.

"We are proud to welcome the new Indian Consular Application Center to Edison,” said Mayor Joshi. “This center both improves essential services for our residents and will also support Edison's businesses, which will benefit from the increased tourism as it serves individuals from New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania."

The Edison location is among several new Indian Consular Application Centers (ICACs) launching nationwide as part of a federal initiative to modernize service delivery for Indian nationals and citizens of Indian origin living in the United States.

New Jersey is home to approximately 500,000 residents of Indian origin, making it one of the largest Indian-American populations in the country. Previously, these residents had to travel to New York City for passport renewals, visa applications, and other consular services.

The new center will serve residents from across New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania, positioning Edison as a regional hub for Indian consular services.

The Edison ICAC offers a full range of consular services, including passport and visa processing, Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) certificates, and document attestation services. The center also handles life certificates for pensioners, police clearance certificates, and registration of births and marriages.

Operating six days a week, the facility includes value-added services such as professional photography, document copying, form completion assistance, and courier service for completed applications.

The Edison opening reflects a broader effort by the Indian government to improve consular access across the United States. Similar centers are launching in major metropolitan areas with significant Indian-American populations.
