Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé says that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the fatal shooting of Tyquane Steed, 29, of Howell Township, N.J.

According to officials, on February 13, 2024 shortly before 9 p.m., Newark police responded to a report of a shooting on the 900 block of South 16th Street in Newark and police officers found Steed inside a residence suffering from a gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:13 p.m.

The investigation is active and ongoing, currently no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432 and police say that calls will be kept confidential.
