BOE and Mayor and Council Meets, a Basketball Tournament and More

Here is a look at five things you should know about and might not want to miss this week:

Number one:

The Fort Lee Board of Education will hold its regular business meeting Monday at 8 p.m. at School No. 1 at 250 Hoym St. in the library. The agenda for the meeting should be posted here by on the school district’s website Monday by noon.

Fort Lee Film Commission Executive Director Tom Meyers will present β€œFirst Woman Director in Cinema History: Fort Lee’s Alice Guy BlacheΒ  (circa 1912)” at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Meadowlands Environment Center Lyndhurst. Alice Guy Blache, one of the first three filmmakers in France, began directing in the 1890s. In 1912, Blache came to what was then the motion picture capital of the world, Fort Lee, and built her $100,000 studio, Solax, on Lemoine Ave. Here she produced, wrote and directed hundreds of films. Number three:

The Fort Lee High School Guidance Department will host its annual college planning night for freshmen, sophomores, juniors and their parents on Tuesday 7:30 p.m. in the high school Auditorium. The program will be presented by Susan Davidson, Office of AdmissionsΒ fromΒ Cooper Union.Β

Number four:Β 

The Fort Lee Mayor and Council will hold an executive session Thursday starting at 7 p.m. As is the governing body’s common practice, the meeting is likely to begin in open session, but an immediate motion for a closed session is likely with the meeting re-opened to the public at about 8 p.m. Expect the agenda for the meeting to be posted on the borough’s website on Wednesday afternoon.


Number five:Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β 

And on Saturday, the is holding its first annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament and fundraiser at Fort Lee High School. Organizers are expecting over 30 teams, including area high school students, local government officials, police and fire departments and chamber members.
