Six Candidates To Vie For Three Seats on Fort Lee BOE

All three incumbents and three newcomers filed to run by Tuesday's deadline

Six candidates will be vying for three seats on the Fort Lee Board of Education in the April election, school officials have confirmed.

The terms of current board vice president Peter J. Suh, Michelle Stux-Ramirez and Joseph J. Surace are set to expire this year, and all three incumbents filed petitions to run in the April 27 election before Tuesday’s filing deadline, said district business administrator and board secretary Cheryl Balletto.

Also filing petitions to run for three-year terms on the school district’s governing body were Paul Umrichin, Tracy Mattei and Helen Yoon, Balletto confirmed.

The top three vote-getters in the April 27 election among the six contenders will either join or remain on the nine-member board.

The Fort Lee Homeowners Association will also host a "Board of Education Candidates Night" on April 5 at the Fort Lee Middle School. Β All six candidates will be invited.Β

In addition to Suh, Stux-Ramirez and Surace, current BOE members are as follows with term expiration in parentheses: John Bang (2012), Arthur W. Levine (2013), Linda McCue (2012), Angela Napolitano (2012), Yusang Park (2013) and current board president Carmelo Luppino (2013).
