Freehold Area Health Department Receives 2024 Promising Practice Award

The department won for their long-term care facility infection control program.

FREEHOLD, NJ — The Freehold Area Health Department has received the 2024 National Association of County and City Health Officials NJ Promising Practice Award for their long-term care facility infection control training program.

The program trained 322 staff members across 14 of Freehold’s 27 long-term care facilities between March and June of 2023, Freehold Township said.

“You have all worked hard on this,” the Township said, “And we are so happy to see you successful and appreciated.”

The National Association of County and City Health Officials is the voice of the over 3,300 local health departments across the country, according to officials.

The Model and Promising Practice Awards are an annual recognition of local public health best practices. This year, officials said 14 local health department programs have been recognized as Model Practices, and 29 programs have been recognized as Promising Practices.

Promising Practices have “demonstrated exciting approaches and strategies to local public health challenges” that are on track to becoming Model Practices, according to the National Association of County and City Health Officials website.

“Each year, we are thrilled to recognize the incredible work of local health departments through our Model and Promising Practice Awards,” said National Association of County and City Health Officials CEO Lori Tremmel Freeman.

“This year’s awardees have demonstrated exceptional service in developing programs to address substance use, health inequities, infant and child health, health literacy, immunization, foodborne illnesses, hepatitis, and other pressing health challenges in their regions,” Freeman continued. “This recognition is sure to inspire continued excellence and progress in public health practices across the country.”
