Teen Girl Dies After Being Struck By Car In Upper Freehold

State police report that a 16-year-old girl was killed after being struck by a car on Route 539 in Upper Freehold.

UPPER FREEHOLD, NJ — State police report that a 16-year-old girl died Friday morning after being struck by a car as she jogged on Route 539 in Upper Freehold.

Sgt. Philip Curry of the New Jersey State Police Public Information Unit said the accident happened at 7:46 a.m. on County Route 539 northbound at milepost 37.72, near the Route 537 intersection.

According to a preliminary investigation, a Kia Soul was traveling north on 539 when it struck the girl, a pedestrian, he said.

After the impact, the car crossed the center line and traveled up a grass embankment.

According to additional details from Mid-Jersey News, the girl was a student at Allentown High School and was jogging when she was struck. The school is offering counseling to students or staff on Saturday, Feb. 18, between 9 a.m. to noon, the district superintendent said in a letter to the school community.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.
