LONGPORT, NJ — One person was hospitalized following a food truck fire in Longport over the weekend, police said.
Officer Rodriguez was on routine patrol at about 2:36 p.m. Sunday when he saw a large plume of black smoke coming from the driveway where Betty's Seafood food truck was parked, Longport police said.
As he approached, he saw flames coming from the truck's generator, police said. Workers were already trying to extinguish the fire with a garden hose.

Rodriguez immediately grabbed a fire extinguisher and, working alongside the food truck employees, suppressed the flames before they spread further, police said. Rodriguez called for additional assistance and Officer Jonathan Saggese arrived on scene shortly after to help a young man who suffered moderate burn injuries, police said. That man was taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
"The Longport Police Department urges all residents and business owners to keep a working fire extinguisher nearby and to always call 9-1-1 immediately during emergencies," police said. "Having proper tools on hand and acting quickly can make all the difference in an incident like this."
