AC Cop Stabbed At Crash Site Fired Multiple Shots At Attacker

Timothy Deal, 32, who stabbed the officer, died from multiple gunshot wounds after the unproved attack, prosecutor says.

ATLANTIC CITY - A city police officer who was stabbed in an unprovoked attack after he responded to a traffic crash was treated and released from the AtlantiCare Medical Center City Campus Trauma Center, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner said.

And Timothy Deal, 32, the city man who stabbed him, died of multiple gunshot wounds at the trauma center.

The officer responded to a hit and run crash on the 600 block on North Kentucky Avenue on the evening of June 22. Deal, who was not connected to the accident, approached the officer, then stabbed him in the torso, Tyner said.

"Preliminary investigation reveals the injured officer discharged his weapon striking Deal, ending the attack," he said.

The investigation is ongoing and will include submission of evidence to the New Jersey State Police Ballistics Laboratory.

The Division of Criminal Justice was notified and the Atlantic County Major Crimes Unit is conducting the investigation without the participation of the Atlantic City Police Department, as per state guidelines.
