Cops Investigating After Woman, 77, Dies On Atlantic City Highway
Police are investigating after a 77-year-old woman died after she was struck on a New Jersey highway, police said.
ATLANTIC CITY. – A 77-year-old woman has died after she was struck on an Atlantic City highway, police said.
The incident happened on Tuesday night at 9:23 pm when patrol officers responded to the eastbound lanes of Route 40 at mile marker 62.4 for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, the woman was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle, Michael Ortiz, 56, of Atlantic City, stopped and remained on the scene. He was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division with non-life-threatening injuries.
An initial investigation conducted by Officer Eric Knuttel of the Accident Investigations Section revealed the pedestrian was crossing Route 40 in the left lane. It is believed that she was going to attempt to climb over the concrete median barrier to cross the roadway when she was struck.

The next of kin have not been located. The cause of the crash is under investigation with assistance from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
