Driver Charged With DWI After Crash In Galloway: Police

An Absecon man was charged with driving while intoxicated after rear-ending a car on Sunday evening on New York Road, Galloway police said.

GALLOWAY, NJ — An Absecon man was charged with driving while intoxicated after rear-ending a car on Sunday evening on New York Road, Galloway police said.

John Hurden, 29, of Galloway, was traveling north on New York Road in a Chevy Belair just after 8 p.m. when he was rear-ended by Michael Murphy, 27, of Absecon, according to police.

Murphy’s Ford-150 ran off the road and struck a tree, multiple signs and the Bayview Fire House, causing extensive damage to the building before the vehicle overturned, police said.

Hurden’s car caught fire after it was rear-ended from the impact to its gas tank, police said.

Authorities said the crash shut down the roadway for two hours.

The passengers in the Chevy Belair were taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Division and are in stable condition, police said. Murphy sustained minor injuries and was treated at Atlantic City Medical Center Mainland Division.

Murphy has been charged with driving while intoxicated and assault by auto.
