Guardian, Swift Win Assembly Seats In 2nd District: AP

Claire Swift and Don Guardian were elected to the Assembly in the 2nd Legislative District, according to results from The AP.

ATLANTIC COUNTY, NJ — Claire Swift and Don Guardian have been elected to the New Jersey Assembly in the 2nd Legislative District, according to results from The Associated Press.

The two Republican candidates defeated Democratic Assemblyman John Armato and Caren Fitzpatrick. Guardian received 30,414 votes, unseating Armato with 26,702 votes. Swift received the most votes of the four candidates, totaling 30,626 to Fitzpatrick's 25,750 votes.

Guardian previously ran the Special Improvement District (SID) which oversees the day-to-day upkeep of Atlantic City, for 20 years until he was elected mayor in 2013. Most recently, he served as business administrator for Toms River in 2017.

Swift is a local attorney and lifelong resident of Atlantic County.

In the Senate race, Republican Vince Polistina was elected to serve in the 2nd Legislative District, according to unofficial results published by the Associated Press. Polistina received 30,312 votes to Vincent Mazzeo's 27,740 votes.

The results remain unofficial until certified by the Atlantic County clerk. The 2nd Legislative District includes Absecon, Atlantic City, Brigantine, Buena, Buena Vista, Egg Harbor City, Egg Harbor Township, Folsom, Hamilton (Atlantic), Linwood, Longport, Margate City, Mullica, Northfield, Pleasantville, Somers Point and Ventnor City.
