NJ 2nd District 2021 Election Results: Republicans Hold Lead
Republican candidates in the 2nd district are leading the state Senate and Assembly races, according to unofficial vote tallies.

GALLOWAY, NJ — Republican candidates in the 2nd district are leading the state Senate and Assembly races, according to unofficial vote tallies.
Democrat Vincent Mazzeo ran against Republican candidate Vincent Polistina for a Senate seat.

Here are the unofficial results, according to the Atlantic County Board of Elections. The results do not become official until the election board certifies them, usually later in November. Be sure to check back as Patch will be updating as results become available.
State Senate:

- Mazzeo - 27,740
- Polistina - 30,312
Mazzeo has been serving in the General Assembly since Jan. 14, 2014. Prior to serving as mayor, Mazzeo served on the Northfield City Council from 2003 until 2007 and was the president of the council. He then served as Mayor from 2008-2014. Mazzeo chaired the Assembly’s state and local government committee and served on the labor and tourism, gaming and the arts committees.
Polistina is a former member of the New Jersey General Assembly, representing District 2. Polistina assumed office in 2008 and left office in 2012. Polistina also previously served as a member of the Atlantic County Republican Campaign Committee and as Chair of the Atlantic County Republican Finance Committee.
Assemblyman John Armato and Democratic candidate Caren Fitzpatrick ran for two seats against Republicans Don Guardian and Claire Swift.
General Assembly:
- Guardian - 30,414
- Swift - 30,626
- Armato - 26,702
- Fitzpatrick - 25,750
During his assembly term, Armato has served on the agriculture, health and military and veterans’ affairs committees.
Fitzpatrick is Atlantic County Commissioner at Large and the director of finance and administration at Meet AC, the organization that brings meetings and conventions to Atlantic City.
Guardian previously ran the Special Improvement District (SID) which oversees the day-to-day upkeep of Atlantic City, for 20 years until he was elected mayor in 2013. Most recently, he served as business administrator for Toms River in 2017.
Swift is a local attorney and lifelong resident of Atlantic County.
The 2nd Legislative District includes Absecon, Atlantic City, Brigantine, Buena, Buena Vista, Egg Harbor City, Egg Harbor Township, Folsom, Hamilton (Atlantic), Linwood, Longport, Margate City, Mullica, Northfield, Pleasantville, Somers Point and Ventnor City.
