Prosecutor Releases Fatal Shooting Video Of Man Who Stabbed Cop
Timothy Deal, 32, died after he stabbed an unnamed Atlantic City police officer on June 23

MAYS LANDING - The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the shooting death of a city man who stabbed an Atlantic City police officer in the torso when he responded to a hit and run crash on June 22.
Prosecutor Damon Damon G. Tyner called the shooting "tragic," but said it was in response to Timothy Deal's unprovoked attack on the unnamed police officer who shot him. Deal was not involved in the traffic accident, he said.
"We must not lose sight of the fact that a sworn police officer reported to the scene of an accident to protect the public, and was attacked for no apparent reason," Tyner said. "The officer defended himself and protected the public from untold harm. This incident reminds us of how fragile life can be and we should all be thankful that no innocent bystanders were injured.”

Deal died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to an autopsy performed by the Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

"Preliminary investigation reveals the injured officer discharged his weapon striking Deal, ending the threat," Tyner said.
Both the injured officer and Deal were transported to the AtlantiCare Medical Center City Campus Trauma Center. Deal was pronounced dead at the trauma center. The injured officer was treated and released.
The investigation will include submission of evidence to the New Jersey State Police Ballistics Laboratory.
The state Division of Criminal Justice was notified and the Atlantic County Major Crimes Unit is conducting the investigation without the participation of the Atlantic City Police Department.
