VIDEO: SUV Destroyed In Brigantine Beach Blaze

Owners were trying to free vehicle that was stuck in sand when fire broke out, officials say

BRIGANTINE, NJ - No one was injured when an SUV caught fire on the jetty beach in Brigantine on the Fourth of July, according to fire officials.

The vehicle had become stuck in the sand and the occupants were trying to free it when they noticed that fire was coming from the engine compartment. Brigantine Fire Department members arrived just three minutes later, after receiving the call at 8:44 a.m. The fire was fully involved, according to the fire department's Facebook page.

Firefighters used a special "bumper turret" firefighting vehicle to put the blaze down.

"SR-8 is a 4 wheel drive specially equipped firefighting vehicle that is designed for these type of calls and it performed flawlessly," the post states.

Firefighters used shovels to throw sand on areas of the vehicle that were still burning due to flammable liquids.
