Teen Charged In Assault Had Loaded Handgun: Atlantic City PD

A teenage suspect involved in a robbery was arrested with a loaded handgun and cocaine, authorities said Wednesday.

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — A teenage suspect involved in a robbery was arrested with a loaded handgun and cocaine, authorities said Wednesday.

On Saturday at 1:57 a.m., Atlantic City police responded to the Montpelier and Arctic Avenues for a report of a man that was assaulted.

Officer Jonathan Perez arrived to locate a 43-year-old Atlantic City man who was bleeding. The victim had been approached by two men when one struck him in the head with a bottle. They then went through the man's pockets demanding money, police said.

The man was taken to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Division for treatment.

Perez obtained a description of the suspects which was broadcast to responding officers.

Officer Mailon Demby observed two men that matched the description of the suspects in the first block of south Chelsea Avenue. One man fled and was not apprehended.

Bryan Maldonado, 18, of Atlantic City was arrested after being identified as one of the men responsible for the assault and robbery, police said.

He was found in possession of a loaded handgun, more than three grams of cocaine and drug paraphernalia, according to police.

Maldonado was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon (two counts), possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (two counts), possession of a defaced firearm, possession of a large capacity magazine, possession of CDS, possession with the intent to distribute CDS, conspiracy and possession of CDS paraphernalia.

Maldonado was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
