Two Sandy Victims In Search Of A Home

Imagine being uprooted from the only home and family you have ever known.

That's what's happened to brothers Junior and Papi - eight-year-old rat terriers - whose owners had tried to keep them after they lost their home to Superstorm Sandy.

The family has been staying in temporary housing until their home is rebuilt. The landlord at first allowed the dogs to stay, but gave them a deadline, said Sandy Hickman, a Popcorn Park Zoo employee who helps with animal adoptions.
"Time ran out and the landlord said the pups must go," Hickman said. "So these sweet little litter mates are hoping for a fresh start in life. We will be keeping the boys together, since they have been together their entire lives.".

"Junior and Papi are undertandably upset to be uprooted from the only home they have ever know," she said. "But they are making friends quickly and realize that they are in good hands."

All the fluffy blankets, beds, toys and TLC at the shelter still doesn't compare to a real home, Hickman said.

Both dogs are friendly, affectionate and well-behaved. They do well with other dogs and children. They like to go for long, leisurely strolls, she said.

"Junior and Papi would do well in any great home with a family that promises to love and care for them forever," Hickman said. "Please help our boys put the storm behind them, and give them a sunny future!"
