Vince Polistina Wins Senate Race In 2nd District: AP

Vince Polistina has been elected to the New Jersey State Senate in the 2nd Legislative District, according to results from The AP.

ATLANTIC COUNTY, NJ — Vince Polistina has been elected to the New Jersey State Senate in the 2nd Legislative District, according to results from The Associated Press.

Polistina, a Republican, defeated Democratic challenger and Assemblyman Vincent Mazzeo, The Associated Press projected Thursday afternoon. Polistina had 30,312 votes to Mazzeo’s 27,740 votes.

Polistina is a former member of the New Jersey General Assembly, representing District 2. Polistina assumed office in 2008 and left office in 2012. Polistina also previously served as a member of the Atlantic County Republican Campaign Committee and as Chair of the Atlantic County Republican Finance Committee.

In the Assembly race, Republicans Claire Swift and Don Guardian were also declared winners on Thursday afternoon, according to unofficial results published by the Associated Press.

Guardian received 30,414 votes, unseating Assemblyman John Armato with 26,702 votes. Swift received 30,626 votes to Democratic challenger Caren Fitzpatrick’s 25,750 total votes.

The results remain unofficial until certified by the Atlantic County clerk. The 2nd Legislative District includes Absecon, Atlantic City, Brigantine, Buena, Buena Vista, Egg Harbor City, Egg Harbor Township, Folsom, Hamilton (Atlantic), Linwood, Longport, Margate City, Mullica, Northfield, Pleasantville, Somers Point and Ventnor City.
