GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Pennsylvania man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian in Gloucester Township in critical condition earlier this week, police said Friday night.

Roberto Desouza, 40 of Royersford, PA, surrendered at the Gloucester Township Police Department on Friday, according to police.

He was arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault by auto, third-degree knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash resulting in serious bodily injury, and third-degree endangering an injured victim.

Desouza was processed and remanded to the Camden County Correctional facility, Gloucester Township police said.

Passing drivers stayed with the victim until police, fire and EMS arrived, police said. Once stabilized, the victim was taken to Cooper Hospital by EMS, and was listed in critical condition.
Sicklerville Road was closed south bound between Stone Bridge Road and Jarvis Road for about two and a half hours during the initial stages of the investigation. The victim has not been identified.
