Chews School Student Wins PBS Contest

Chews Elementary School third-grader Ria Raval won a PBS illustration contest.

A Chews Elementary School student has been selected the winner of PBS 39-WLVT's " PBS Kids Go! Writers Contest" in the third-grade division.

Ria Raval and her family were recently notified of the award. She is the lone winner from the South Jersey area in the 2012 contest.

Raval's "Just A Dream" is a six-page, illustrated story about a boy named Jake who loves and has a dream about animals.

Raval, who lives in Blackwood, is the younger sister of Preet Raval, who, as an eighth-grade student at Glen Landing Middle School, represented Camden County in the 2011 Scripps National Spelling Bee.

"Since her brother won last year at the (county) spelling bee, she's been following his footsteps," Ria Raval's mother, Sapana, said Tuesday.

Raval will be sharing her story with her classmates today.
