Heavy Winds Wreak Havoc

Police handled more than a dozen wind-related calls over a 12-hour period Saturday.

Township police responded to more than a dozen wind-related situations Saturday as gusts frequently reached up to 60 mph.

The heavy winds brought down power lines, street signs and trees throughout the township.

At about 9 p.m. Saturday, police reported they had responded to a total of 14 wind-related situations since 9 a.m.

They were joined by firefighters from Lambs Terrace and Pine Hill stations and personnel from the New Jersey Forest Fire Service for a brush fire on the 1700 block of Erial Road at one point. That fire was quickly extinguished, police said.

Police also responded to a report of a car damaged by a felled tree on Hampshire Road.

Police noted they had not received any reports of wind-related injuries.
