Fight Crime with National Night Out Tuesday

Gloucester Township hopes to take a bite out of crime Tuesday with McGruff the Crime Dog.

Neighborhoods throughout Gloucester Township are scheduled to be join forces with thousands of communities nationwide Tuesday for the 30th annual Night Out crime/drug prevention event.

From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. residents throughout the township are asked to lock their doors, turn on outdoor lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Also, several neighborhood watch groups will be hosting a variety of special events, such as block parties, cookouts, carnivals, dessert tasting parties, bring your favorite covered dish parties, pool parties, and flashlight walks.

McGruff the Crime Dog is also expected to be on hand. 

More than 37 million people nationwide are expected to participate in America's Night Out Against Crime on Tuesday. It's designed to: heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
