NJ Motorcyclist, 74, Dies In South Jersey U-Turn Crash

A 25-year-old driver tried to make a U-turn on Delsea Drive when their vehicle struck the motorcyclist, police said.

CLAYTON, NJ - A 74-year-old motorcyclist died Saturday night after he was struck by a vehicle attempting to make a U-turn on a main road in Clayton, authorities said.

Shortly before 7:41 p.m. on Saturday, a white 2003 Honda Civic, driven by a 25-year old Deptford resident, was traveling south on Delsea Drive when they attempted to make a U-turn in the roadway and collided with a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by Clayton resident Thomas Pitt, Clayton police said.

Pitt was treated by Gloucester County EMS and transported to Inspira Hospital in Vineland. He was later flown to Cooper University Hospital in Camden where he died from his injuries, police said.

The Honda driver sustained head and shoulder injuries and was transported to Jefferson Hospital in Washington Township, police said. The driver was also issued two traffic citations for careless driving and improper turning in the street.

There was no evidence that the Honda driver was intoxicated or had criminal intent, police added.
