Funding Package Could Bring Millions To South Jersey: Norcross

Rep. Donald Norcross voted in favor of a spending package that could send millions to South Jersey residents.

Rep. Donald Norcross (D-Camden/Gloucester/Burlington) voted in favor of a package of seven government funding bills that are focused on investing in America, the congressman announced.

The bills create American jobs, increase opportunities for the middle class and small businesses, and provide a lifeline for working families.

The district would receive $290,000 in additional Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funds for job training in the district, $36.9 million in additional funding for schools and an additional $22.8 million in funding for veterans’ health care, Norcross said.

“This bill tackles three of my top priorities, creating jobs, expanding opportunity and benefiting working families,” Norcross said. “Several key provisions for South Jersey were in today’s package, including funding for combatting hunger, wind energy, clean drinking water and support for our workers. Together, these investments will help reverse decades of disinvestment in our nation and help America Build Back Better.”

The seven bills include several provisions benefitting South Jersey. According to Norcross, specifically, the package would:

  • Support the nation’s workers, students and families.
  • Tackle hunger, rebuild public health and consumer safety infrastructure, confront the climate crisis and ensure equity.
  • Support small businesses, protect democracy, rebuild the Internal Revenue Service and strengthen consumer protection.
  • Create good-paying jobs in renewable energy and strengthen environmental enforcement with a focus on environmental justice.
  • Support veterans, invest in military family housing and protect our national security while building climate resilience.
  • Creating jobs by rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, grows opportunity through homeownership and rental assistance, and promote safe transportation and public housing.

“After the devastation of the pandemic and decades of disinvestment, the American economy caters increasingly to the wealthy and leaves the middle class, hard-working families, small businesses, and the vulnerable behind,” House of Representatives Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) said. “With these bills, we are reversing these trends and investing in the American people. Together, our transformative and historic funding increases will create good-paying jobs, grow opportunity for the middle class and small businesses and provide a lifeline for working families and the vulnerable.”
