South Jersey Motorcyclist, 36, Dies After Crash With Ice Cream Truck

The truck was attempting a left turn when it failed to yield to the right of way to the motorcycle, police said.

MONROE, NJ - A Gloucester County motorcyclist was killed late Saturday morning after an ice cream truck making a left turn failed to yield to the right of way to the motorcycle, authorities said.

The crash, which occurred on Clayton Road and Railroad Avenue in Monroe Township at around 11:40 a.m., claimed Steven Bass, 36, of Williamstown, Monroe Township police said in a statement.

According to a news release from police, a 2018 Freightliner truck was traveling west on Clayton Road approaching Railroad Avenue while a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Bass was traveling east on the same roadway.

After the Freightliner, driven by Jason Wody, 46, of Deptford, attempted a left turn onto Railroad Avenue, the front of the motorcycle hit the front right side of the truck, police said. Following the collision, the motorcycle came to a halt in the intersection and the truck pulled to the side of the road.

Bass was transported by ambulance to Jefferson Hospital where he was later pronounced dead at 12:32 p.m.
