Cornell Student Killed In Route 80 Crash In Warren County
Classmates remembered Peiran "Joyce" Shi as a warm, well-rounded person who made friends easily.

WARREN COUNTY, NJ— Peiran "Joyce" Shi, a Cornell University student, died in a Route 80 car crash earlier this week. She was 20 years old.
Shi was a native of Shenzhen, China, and lived in Ithaca for school. She planned to major in physics, and was interested in foreign languages, electronic circuits and karate, Vice President for Student & Campus Life Ryan Lombardi said in a statement.
Classmates remembered her as a warm, well-rounded person who made friends easily.

“Even if you were only introduced to Joyce through a mutual friend, she would make a point to wave hello if she saw you walking around,” Alex Hutchins told Cornell's student paper, the Cornell Daily Sun. “Joyce was one of those special people that was warmhearted to her very core, who greeted others with an easy smile with your eyes met, and who was full of laughter and mirth.”
“I’m grateful to have known Joyce, that somehow the university put us in the same suite freshman year,” Anjelika Amog told the paper. “She made Mews and subsequently Cornell feel like home for me.”

Shi was driving with friends when their car crashed Monday night near the Pennsylvania border, Lehigh Valley Live reported. The two other students sustained minor injuries, and have returned to school.
Cornell Physics extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Peiran "Joyce" Shi.
