Former Hackettstown Teacher Sexually Assaulted Teen For 2 Years: Indictment

High school instructor had multiple interactions with his student, Grand Jury says.

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – A Grand Jury has returned an indictment against a former Hackettstown High School teacher who allegedly sexually assaulted a teen student over the course of two years, Warren County Prosecutor Richard Burke announced. At least one of those assaults allegedly occurred inside a classroom, prosecutors say.

An indictment lodged against Michael Martino, 42, charges the former math teacher with one count of sexual assault on a teen between the ages of 16 and 18 that he had β€œsupervisory or disciplinary power over”; endangering the welfare of a child; and official misconduct.

The indictment states that between Sept. 1, 2009 and June 30, 2011, Martino and the alleged victim committed multiple acts of sexual conduct and penetration, specifically oral sex and sexual intercourse, Burke said. At the time of the incidents, Martino was a teacher of the alleged victim, Burke said.

Prosecutors sayΒ at least one of the sexual encounters happened inside a classroom, LehighValleyLive.com reports.

Martino is currently out on $50,000 bail and includes a condition of no contact with the victim.

Each of the three charges are punishable by up to 10 years in prison each.
