Retired Hackettstown Police Officer Loses Home In Fire: PD

Several donation drives have been set up after the retired officer and her husband lost everything in a house fire.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — A retired Hackettstown police officer and her husband lost everything in a house fire Thursday morning, Hackettstown police said.

Cindy (Luteran) Dorcas and her husband, Carl, escaped without injury when their Independence Township home caught fire, but have been left with nothing, police said. Several fundraising efforts to help the couple get back on their feet is currently underway.

Hackettstown police are collecting gift cards; they can be dropped off at the police station Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Gift cards and monetary donations can be dropped off at the Independence Township Volunteer Fire Department on Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A GoFundMe has also been established.

The fire closed Route 46 for several hours Thursday as firefighters worked to battle the blaze.
